Sgarbe to Akel; Letter five

Intimate letter by Sgarbe reflects on recent losses and raises personal questions about spirituality.

After the week in which I kept vigil over a grandfather and buried a friend, not to mention Ata’s godfather, it is natural to turn more inward. I went back to asking about myself when I read in a book by McLuhan: “Circulate the rumor that God is alive” (our translation). Not that someone has to die for me to have perspective. But I cried dry in recent days (I think it was not only because of outside things).

Read it whoever wants, thank you for following along, this one is for me. Walking beside this hole takes some courage, so as not to stumble to the bottom, out of ridiculous simplicity. “Your worst fear is what befalls you,” my friend Marcos used to say, back when I took him exclusively seriously. But make no mistake, Marcos. I have never been so strong.

I have been remembering Gabrielle and Dudson a lot. Our asymmetrical drawings, the tireless small hours, when we decided what the future would be like, with whom, with all those desires to kill and die. With that we gradually became adults, quite naturally. But the exact point was our conception of trichotomy — body, soul and spirit — which expresses itself at this moment in a war that unravels everything. A favorite subject.

I had explained to friends one of my hypotheses about life with a 3D animation. A tennis ball traveling through a transparent tube, from one end to the other and then making the way back quickly, so quickly that it would be impossible to isolate an image to determine its exact location. Positive end and negative end. But now we are talking about trichotomy. The subjects of duality have been explained beforehand, in particular through what can be gleaned from Eastern religions.

On one side the flesh, on the other the spirit, a soul in the middle, making a sandwich. The difference is that now I see everything in detail, first one side, then the other, still in motion, but with a more contemplative impression.
