The weak face the end of the world while the powerful trade in souls

A disturbing reflection on the Palestinian tragedy, the role of the international community and the moral limits of humanity.

Some time ago, I searched for Palestine on Google Maps, and found it in the middle of the ocean. At the time, I concluded that the world had ended, at least one project of a world, on finding a people who love me so much and are loved by me drowned in the hatred in which someone, somewhere, drowned them.

Today, after the murder of hundreds (the number is imprecise, but staggering) of Palestinians who were in a hospital, I realized that the world has ended for them, that the apocalypse, the end of times, has come for those humans. They saw the shame, the hunger, and died.

Imagine with me. Suddenly, a foreign authority orders you to leave your home. As you flee carrying nothing, your journey is one of thirst and hunger. Then you see rubble, dust, friends and family stretched on the ground, some dismembered, others without burial. Then you die too.

If this, which is true, does not make it also true that we have reached the end of the world, then what would the end of the world be? Natural disasters, however bad, are at least honorable. No one can blame the volcano. Genocide with the support of religious groups is the end of the world.

The posture of the international community is insufficient. Humanity is far too paralyzed in reacting to wars; the powerful are not truly powerful. They are nothing but men of the market! And of a market of souls, described there in the Revelation of John.
