In Brazil, Amco presents plan for happiness

International company Amco brings to Brazil an innovative bilingual method that sees happiness as the basis of learning.

“The purpose of education is happiness. Every path is taken so that one arrives at happiness. We understand it is possible to shorten the way,” says Amco CEO Guillermo De León to Lab Journalism 2030. The company’s main product is a bilingual educational system present in 14 countries, which arrived in Brazil shortly before the pandemic.

With a sumptuous white booth at the Bett Brasil fair in São Paulo, Amco welcomes visitors with virtual-reality glasses. The experiences presenting the pedagogical program are autonomous and individual. Even so, teachers, managers and technicians are available and attentive.

“One of the most striking characteristics of the Brazilian market, compared with the other countries where Amco operates, is curiosity about pedagogy. In any case, we are ready for those discussions,” notes the country manager for Brazil, Mekler Nunes. “What Amco does by presenting at this fair is to anticipate possibilities of bilingual learning for the Brazilian reality.”

Nunes considers that whoever reaches the booth “discovers that Amco has the maturity, the experience and, more than that, a highly inspiring educating culture.”

Happiness

With the slogan “Happy to learn,” Amco arouses curiosity about how to translate it into Portuguese. This reporter sees more than one possible version, such as “feliz para aprender” or “feliz em aprender.” Either way, happiness is a central word, part of the organizational canon.

“Scientifically and academically, there are tools that measure and indicate intrapersonal and interpersonal socio-emotional trends in a quite concrete way. This is complex, sophisticated, yet these studies have pointed to directions for competencies. We have 45 minutes [of class time] to land, to take things from the plane of ideas and bring them into practice. And our practice offers possibilities in that sense,” Nunes concludes.

Immersion experience

Implementation manager in Brazil Ágata Soares says that Amco’s participation in the fair (held May 10–13 at the Transamerica Expo Center) is for “us to introduce ourselves. The company arrived in Brazil shortly before the pandemic, which postponed our participation in a public event.”

“Amco has a structure that makes everything possible, from the product presentation to delivery of the classroom in record time. After all, it is a model refined over the last 25 years.”

Service

In general terms, Amco does a full makeover of schools, taking them to bilingual teaching (with English) from elementary through high school. More information is at this address: falecomigo@agatasoares.com.br.
