Lasting relationships: how the seed becomes a tree, the bond needs freedom

Dialogue, unconditional affection and freedom to grow without judgment sustain lasting bonds.

When we are spectators of the sacred choreography of a fluid human relationship, we see the result, and it always seems magical. Idealization is quite common at that moment of enchantment, as if chance had brought those beings together and their attunement had arisen spontaneously. Out of nowhere. Without any effort.

Like great trees, the relationship between humans springs from a seed. Small and fragile, alone it does nothing. Its simplicity and near invisibility contain a universe.

To come alive, the seed must find suitable, welcoming ground that lets it settle in to await its death converted into roots and branches. The seed disappears, transmuted into the future tree.

Very much like the encounter of humans, the seed human meets the ground human. From that encounter come the transformations typical of deep encounters, in which fluidity builds new ways of feeling, thinking and living together. At the beginning, a fragile structure with life potential emerges.

To last, the encounter needs care: small gestures, small, almost imperceptible movements of presence, in dimensions far from the conventional ones of time and space. Dialogues. Presence. Manifest interest, whose meaning, greater than words, warms and comforts.

The roots take shape, nourished by free dialogue, unconditional affection, bridges of contact and the choice to be free of judgment. Deep respect for the other being, who will be able to experience the freedom to grow, expand, fly. The nourishment of the encounter also lies in the deliberate choice not to control, to be happy in the independence of being in the other’s company without preying... Without killing. Without drying out.

The tree, symbol of the free relationship, is beautiful and generous. Leafy, it offers shade and fruit without commerce. It welcomes laughter and tears, listens when it is time to listen, speaks when it is time to speak. It is not shaken by the shaking around it.

Faced with this abundance, it pains me to think of relationships guided by scarcity, competition, dispute.

How many seeds dying amid aridity, how many trees cut down when they needed only a little nourishment.

Not paying attention to what happens in the flowering and fruiting makes human beings, in their senseless hurry, lose what is truly worth living: tiny, almost imperceptible moments of pure life in motion.

Lack of attention leads ordinary human beings to a frantic search for compensations and leads the public human to indifference toward others and toward the countless possible seeds.

What truly matters does not generate grand, charming, retouched posts. What truly matters is available to those who are attentive, with the eyes of the soul wide open.

Every perceived magic was preceded by cultivation, nourishment and respect. And by careful pruning, since it is also fundamental in relationships: renouncing the unnecessary can be as precious as, or more than, seeking the necessary.
