Bill imposes fine if women are not paid equal to men
New government proposal calls for strict penalties on companies for pay inequality between men and women.

A bill signed this Wednesday (the 8th) by Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, provides a fine of ten times the company’s highest salary if women do not receive the same pay as men at the same career level. The criteria are length of service, role and education. The text, on pay equality, went to the National Congress for review.
The bill also proposes that companies with more than 20 employees be required to publish their salary ranges, so that inspection by the Ministry of Labor becomes possible. Currently, there is no Ministry protocol for such inspection.
